Anthony Browne

I got my start at age 7, constructing geometric forms from scrap lumber and loose nails in the garage, wielding just a hammer and a hand saw. Materials were scarce, and I learned to reimagine, conserve, and design within limits, pulling the nails from my last creation to craft the next.

Today my practice is centered on those same principles: designing to the smallest practical scale using the least possible material and re-deploying existing structures in novel ways. I approach each project as though everything we knew previously is wrong, or that I know nothing at all.

My education includes an A.A.S. in Business Management from Borough of Manhattan Community College, CUNY and a B.A. in Art History from Hunter College, CUNY. Pre-pandemic, I built an art handling company in New York focused on local delivery and installation. There I designed tools, equipment, hardware, and software for the trade. Those designs were the foundation for Inventive Industrial.
